Jazz guitarist and educator, Steve Yankee has been studying music since the age of nine. At Wayne State University in Michigan, he studied under Charles Postlewate and Joe Fava. He has spent the last 35 years sharing his musical knowledge through both private instruction and at the college and university level at schools such as the University of Michigan, Flint Institute of Music, and the Baltimore School for the Arts. Currently, you can find him teaching at Goucher College and the Peabody Institute.
His teaching philosophy involves a holistic approach to learning music, which can then be applied to learning to play the instrument itself, be it guitar or electric bass. This fosters his students’ ability to express themselves in improvisation and soloing as well as in laying a good foundation as accompaniment in an ensemble setting.
You can also find him performing around Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
Steve Yankee plays exclusively Zimnicki guitars.
